Inauguration Countdown Day 25 — Freedom Fighting Is Not for Sissies

I noticed a comment on my LinkedIn profile from a guy who was posting in response to my Blog Countdown. Apparently he saw the update about Day 30, and just had to let me know his opinion: “Ugh, at first I thought this was positive, but it’s another anti-Trump attack. Very tiring, can’t wait for it to end.”

I assume he means he wants my countdown to end. The rest of us are probably thinking we’d like Trump’s presidency to end before it gets started.

Meanwhile, however, I had just received a private note from a man who said he was really looking forward to reading my new book “America’s New Breed of Freedom Fighters,” and closed with “We need all the help we can get.”

If I was on a rant about Trump, I would have leapt at the chance to tell that LinkedIn guy a thing or two about how positive in nature my blog posts always are (there are over 500 at my central site and I’ve been blogging on stress management and the law of attraction since 2009).  However, since the whole point of the blog countdown and my new book is to help people understand the laws of the mind better and lift up to a higher level of awareness about all we can achieve together, I simply ignored the LinkedIn comment, and read the private note out loud to myself again.

It can be tempting to try to reach out to someone who is a Trump supporter and coax or cajole or convince them of the error of their ways, but that’s really a waste of energy. None of us enjoy having someone try to force their opposing opinion on us, and I don’t want to be guilty of doing that to anyone, no matter who they voted for, or if they, like 47% of registered voters, didn’t vote at all.

I say that “Freedom fighting is not for sissies” not only because of the slings and arrows we may get from Trump supporters, but also because being a modern day resistance fighter is going to require us to dig deep into what kind of people we want to be, and to commit to ourselves and each other that we won’t let insults or mudslinging stop us.

These are brave words for a recovered people-pleaser, but if I can do this when I have shrunk away from conflict my entire life, then so can you. I’m willing to be the standard-bearer, but I can’t do this alone. I hope you’ll join me and together we can, with the power of a beautiful vision for our country, create the kind of world we want to live in and pass along to future generations. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? Oh yeah, all that and more.

I’ll get into all of this in greater detail in my new book America’s New Breed of Freedom Fighters—coming on Inauguration Day.
