3 Ways to Lift Your Mood

Feeling discouraged?

A big stressor for most of us is when things don’t turn out the way we want.

Are you a busy mom, and it feels like there aren’t enough hours in the day?

Or an overwhelmed exec or business owner?

All of us get stressed out and discouraged at times, whether we work in a corporate office or a kitchen at home.

Maybe you’ve got a big project at work that you’ve been putting a lot of time into, and it’s not going well, or it’s just been rejected by the Powers That Be.

Want to know how to feel better, fast? And it’s all perfectly legal and safe.

3 Ways to Improve Your Mood:

  1. Remember that this too will pass. Usually feelings of discouragement are short-lived unless you pay a lot of attention to them and invite them to stay. So remind yourself that everybody gets “down” days at times, and don’t let this one become a permanent fixture in your life.
  2. Get busy with something else that’s important to you. When you’re feeling upset about a project or event in your life, take a break from it and put your energy into another project where you will see more immediate and favorable results. It might be something as simple as cleaning your desk of clutter so that you feel renewed in your determination to succeed. Or bake your favorite pie and enjoy it with family or friends tonight.
  3. Exercise! Get moving, and get those endorphin “feel good” hormones surging through your brain. If you’re a runner, you know about the “runner’s high” which you get with the natural endorphin release when you push yourself to keep going. Jog in place, take a brisk walk, get to the gym. Don’t just sit around and mope. When you give your muscles a challenge, you distract your mind from worrying about the situations that have you feeling low. Try it and see how much better you feel after an hour work-out.

I recently bought fingerless training gloves to protect my hands so I can workout with my boyfriend’s heavy bag — it really releases a lot of tension to spend even ten minutes punching that bag! And then I can get back to my desk, ready to tackle the next thing on my list.

Don’t let your feelings of discouragement build up day after day. Use these three tips to be pro-active and get your stress under control.

your happiness guru,
Evelyn

  3. I can relate to number 2-get busy with something else. Whenever my husband notices me getting discouraged or frustrated, he insists that I take a break and do something else. It always works.
I think it’s great that you call yourself a “Happiness Guru.”

  5. All three tips are great ones. Thank you. Jumping into a way to feel better rather than wallow is excellent advice, as wallowing can too quickly become semi-permanent. Yikes!

I really enjoy the picture in my mind of you strapping on those gloves and wailing tar out of a punching bag. It just doesn’t quite fit with your lady-like photo. Likely you take off the pretty scarf. Hee!

  7. Thanks Jeanette, and thanks for liking the “guru” part. I was afraid it might sound too holier-than-thou but I really want to help as many people as I can get happy!

  9. Hi Evelyn..
    Ahh… just what I needed.

I was SOOO up and excited for the last few weeks.. unstoppable! Yesterday I got knocked off a bit sideways, and all I wanted was to be back in that super high vibe of happiness.
When I realized I was OK where I was, and really accepting that it got a bit better. If I had only remembered. This too Shall Pass.. I think acceptance would have come faster.
OK.. now I need ANOTHER post it note on the wall.. lol.

    Peace and light
