Where there’s a will, there’s a wall
I love that quote from Michael Beckwith, the spiritual teacher you may have seen in “The Secret.”
You may be more familiar with the old saying, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way” because many of us grew up with that quote as a pep talk to remind us to keep trying when there was something we want to achieve. Find that “way” to make it work, to force things to turn out exactly how you want.
But the thing I believe Beckwith is teaching, which I agree with, is that when you get caught up in the whirlwind of self-will, and you focus completely on a specific goal, you will slam into a wall. You will be resisting the reality of things that come up around you, and instead keep on pushing and pushing, determined to get what you feel entitled to.
In the process, you can get totally stressed out, and wreck not only your life but relationships you’re involved in with others at home and work.
Solution? Instead, learn to take the path of least resistance and use your energy to go with the universal flow of good.
Wake yourself up to all the possibilities in your life, instead of staying stubbornly focused on a single goal that you feel you must achieve at all costs. Seek that window in the wall.
