Be-Happier Tip: Take a Dream Flight with TV’s Pan Am Colette
Did you see the recent episode of “Pan Am” where the stewardesses are playing Truth or Dare– and “dare” Colette to fly the plane?
Well, back in 1963, when the episode takes place, women were not allowed to be commercial pilots… or astronauts.
Colette gets to make her dream come true, when the pilot agrees to let her sit in the co-pilot seat and hold the controls briefly– but only because the passengers on this flight are military, and not paying passengers. To have a woman fly a plane with passengers would have been against a whole host of rules and regulations. But in that brief moment, we see the sheer joy on Colette’s face when she glances over and sees the pilot has taken his hands off the yoke — and she is flying.
I recently had my first flying lesson in a Piper Warrior 4-seater — and I sure loved it. See the photo below.
What dream can you put into FLIGHT this week? Think about it — and remember that courage is merely fear that has said its prayers.
My book “The Dream Spinners” features a woman who wants to rectify that old double-standard, and pay tribute to our first women astronaut-trainees. But then her son is accidentally killed, and she loses her ambition…

Be-Happier Tip: Stop Frowning!
Have you ever heard the expressions “Let a smile be your umbrella” and “A smile is a frown turned upside down”?
Maybe you heard them too many times while growing up, and dismissed the good advice both sayings contain. Research has told us that it’s healthier to be happy and have a positive outlook — so why are so many people walking around with a frown?
I believe that many times it is a reflection of what the person is “thinking” — or more likely, the worries they have allowed to rule their life! If you go through your day fretting inside that you don’t have time for all the tasks on your list, and thinking ahead and ahead even further into what you will say and do next with some other person in some other situation than where you are NOW… if you pass a mirror or reflective window, you might catch yourself frowning.
Wait — I bet I know what your excuse is. Life is serious. You have to frown to show you are taking your life seriously and not frittering it away like some goofball slacker. But the real test comes with how you FEEL.
When you frown… do you feel good inside? Or do you feel bad…stressed, hurried and overwhelmed?
When you smile, on the other hand, does your energy increase? Do you see life as a joyous adventure? Smiling teaches your mind that you are a person who wants to enjoy life — and that means you will begin attracting more people and events and results that are in harmony with your positive, cheerful outlook.
Try it — for one week, make a conscious effort to notice when you are frowning, and quickly switch your expression to a smile. Look at that image of butterflies — doesn’t that make you smile? Make a list of things you can think of quickly that make you smile. Train yourself to be aware of beauty in nature and all around you — discover things that are pleasing that you might have overlooked. At work and at home, put out pictures of people and pets you love, and let each photo remind you of happy times.
Along with your new smile, give yourself a pep talk: I can do this! I can handle my life just fine! No need to worry, I can relax and get my work done efficiently. Let me know how it goes!
to your happiness,

Take A Magic Carpet Ride To Happiness
Magic carpet??? Is there such a thing really? Well… not that I know of. But even better, each of us has a magically creative mind, and with our thoughts we can lift ourselves up and out of a bad mood or a bad vibe. Try watching this video from “Aladdin” the Disney movie and see if you don’t feel more upbeat than when you got here. Even people who are basically optimistic or would call themselves positive thinkers can use a boost now and then, if not on a daily basis. Find what works for you when you need to shift away from negative thoughts and get your groove on.
Often, when we’re around others who are complaining or griping or predict only doom and gloom for the future (often while calling themselves cheerful people!) it’s hard not to have that downer attitude rub off and make you suddenly feel uncertain about your day, and wonder what you could possibly have been feeling so good about just a few minutes earlier. Perhaps your friend or family member carefully points out to you that you need to be more realistic and face the facts of your life — they might even rattle off a list of “bad stuff” such as bills, or a car repair you need to pay for, etc — the list can be quite long many times, and can be daunting to hear!
But instead of letting their negative outlook affect you, hold onto your own mental carpet ride and let it swoop you back into the positive vibration that is the only way to attract the good you desire. Now here’s the video — “A Whole New World” is one of my favorite songs because it is not only beautiful music, but the lyrics are upbeat and happy! By the way, if you’re not familiar with the story, the reason Jasmine hesitates when Aladdin holds out his hand to her and asks if she trusts him is that early in the first act, Aladdin as himself (a beggar boy not the prince he is now posing to be) held out his hand to help her and said those same words. So now, he has unwittingly revealed himself to her and yet she is unafraid and takes his hand. A special love story based on trust rather than outward appearances.
Be-Happier Tip: turn up the volume!
If you were watching TV and the sound was too low… what would you do? Would you sit there, straining to hear? Or would you grab the remote and turn up the volume?
I’m betting you’d turn it up!
But in our daily lives, we often live at a low “volume” level, accepting low energy or a ho-hum attitude as being “good enough.”
Do you want to remain stressed, unhappy, exhausted, drained and tired out by your life circumstances?
Or do you want to experience bliss, joy, happiness and abundance?
Hmmm. Quite a choice isn’t it? And the thing we often forget is that the results we get are completely determined by the choice we make.
So if you’re experiencing Life at a low volume level, grab your mental remote control and AMP THINGS UP! Don’t just sit there, feeling like a victim or that you don’t have money to do the things you want.
