Inauguration Countdown Day 22– Stand Guard

Ralph Waldo Emerson was a popular lecturer, author, essayist and founder of the Transcendentalist movement in the mid-19th century. Transcendentalism focused on seeking to understand the philosophy and metaphysical teachings of Jesus Christ so that one could go beyond the mere material realm that we live in and access the far greater power of the world of the mind.

Emerson’s advice to “Stand guard at the portal of your mind” is needed now more than ever. It is vital for the health of our country, and for ourselves and our families, that we learn to dismiss the angry rants and destruction of liberty that permeate Mr. Trump’s agenda.

When we stand guard at the doorway to our thoughts, it means that we are not passive victims. We stop being “reactive” and begin being responsive instead. We take charge of our thoughts, and focus on the results we want, without letting someone else’s agenda terrify us and distract us from our beneficial goals.

When we dismiss the negative in our lives, we actually attract less and less of it. However, when we focus on it, however inadvertently, and fear what will happen next, then we become energetic participants in the problem.

I invite you to continue to be part of the solution in America. Progressives and Democrats traditionally are service-oriented. We look to see what good we can bring to our fellow citizens, and also our international friends who share this journey of expansion with us at this important time of transition in the human race to a higher level of awareness, truly the “Age of Aquarius.” We are growing out of our long dark history of greed, struggle, and control by force, and into an awakening wherein each individual is cherished and nurtured, and contributes to the good of the whole.

You came here on purpose at this time in the world, to be part of the change. Perhaps you are part of the stirring up and agitation of fear, perhaps you aligned your energies with Mr. Trump’s platform. And in doing so, you’ve given the rest of us the impetus to grow and move forward even more rapidly than before.

When life is easygoing, we lay back in our hammocks with a fan in one hand and a lemonade in the other, observing how pleasant the garden is. When an infestation arrives in that garden, we move into action and do all we can to protect what is already flourishing, and also to nourish even more growth.

Let’s keep growing together. I invite you to affirm:  I live and serve at my highest potential each day. I stand guard at the portal of my mind, and I do not allow in thoughts of destruction and resentment. I allow only good into my life. We are all connected.

I’ll get into all of this in greater detail in my new book America’s New Breed of Freedom Fighters—coming on Inauguration Day.
