What happened when you first heard about the massive wall Trump plans to build at our southern border? We think in images, so I feel confident you didn’t see the letters “W-A-L-L” in your mind’s eye. Instead, you no doubt pictured a snaking wall between the United States and Mexico. That picture popped into your mind instantaneously, didn’t it?
Our images are powerful. The longer we think about that wall and add details to it in our horrified imagination, the stronger and more realistic the picture gets. Have you ever used a Polaroid instant camera? Remember watching as the picture developed into full color right before your eyes? That’s just a small metaphor for how our imagination power works.
If you are appalled at the idea of breaking the economy by building a huge wall across many miles, dividing our citizens ever more firmly into opposing camps, and becoming a police state, then we have to start taking action now.
I’ll leave it up to you to support the activist and political sites by signing petitions and helping to share messages from the Democratic Party and other progressive groups.
What I want you to do is to promise you’ll stop picturing that damned wall.
Okay, what happened? Did the image magically go away? Of course not. Probably it got even clearer because I told you not to picture it. This is like the old joke: Hey, don’t think about an elephant in your living room!
The special trick to using the law of attraction is to turn our attention away from the result or experience that we do not want to create. Since most of us never learned to do this growing up, we have very well-established thinking habits, and it can feel like quite a challenge to not automatically join in the worrying and anxiety about all of Trump’s plans.
After all, he’s got so many of them, and not a single one is beneficial for our country. His agenda is to systematically attack our freedoms and change the landscape of our land into one reminiscent of a fascist regime.
Here’s the way to change the picture of what he plans into a beautiful picture of progress and freedom for all. Each time you think about the wall, distract yourself with something else. Don’t try to force the image away, simply think about flowers, or puppies, or what you are going to have for dinner. If friends and family and coworkers begin fretting about the wall, don’t participate in the conversation. Depending on who you are with, share the idea of turning your focus away from the wall and onto things that are positive and make you feel uplifted instead of frightened.
We can truly turn injustice into justice when we join together in creating positive images. Our thinking power means that we create the experiences and results we share. That means we’re either helping to build the wall by being upset and terrified about it…
Or we are dissolving it before Trump can even hire the architects, by virtue of turning our energy AWAY from the mental pictures of walls.
James Allen: “We think in secret and it comes to pass. Environment is but our looking glass.” Memorize that quote. Read his book “As a Man Thinketh.” Actually, you can pick up a copy of it as a gift from me when you go to the readers page link that is inside my new book “America’s New Breed of Freedom Fighters.”
Draw on your bottomless reserve of courage and remind yourself that being a Freedom Fighter means we don’t back down to bullies no matter how outrageous their antics become. The election itself was a barrier to his plan to build the wall, but once he got in, fear crossed the barrier, and now we have a number of hurdles in front of us.
Trump attracts bullies and people who are fearful and angry. Some of his supporters are no doubt good people who were deluded into voting for him. After all, Hitler was elected in 1932, and many thousands of people adored him and thought he’d bring Germany to “greatness.”
Trump whipped people into a frenzy of fear with all of his rants and ravings. He’s deadly serious about rolling back freedom, liberty and justice so that only he and his cronies come out on top.
Mr. Trump is an extreme narcissist. Narcissists hate being laughed at. Start laughing at Trump’s plan to build a wall at our Mexican border. Each time the image of Trump’s wall comes to mind, turn your attention to a peaceful Mexican border where sensible immigration laws prevail.
I’ll get into all of this in greater detail in my new book America’s New Breed of Freedom Fighters—coming on Inauguration Day.
Are you in? Okay, then put aside the panic, breathe mindfully, and realize this is an incredible opportunity for all of us to “fight” for the freedom and justice we desire. More to come in the rest of this blog countdown to Inauguration 2017, and in my new book which will be released that day: America’s New Breed of Freedom Fighters: With Liberty and Justice for All
