Why Is Obedience Important to Success?

At first glance, many of us cringe at the word “obey” or “obedience” because it brings up instant memories of being ordered to do something we didn’t want to do, at threat of punishment or a failing grade, or a treat withheld.  However, a deeper understanding of obedience puts us into the scientific framework of quantum physics, where we can delve into the truth that we must be obedient to the universal laws or we cannot possibly get the results we want.

For instance, we know that we must be obedient to the Law of Gravity. Just because your hands are full of packages doesn’t mean you get to put one of them mid-air and expect it to stay there while you grope in a pocket for your keys. We know that, because physical experiences taught us about gravity starting about age 18 months (if you’ve ever seen a child playing the game “dropsy” where they toss food or a cup or toy over the high chair edge and watch gleefully as it drops to the ground, you’ll realize the child was learning basic compliance with gravity.)

When we want to succeed with a project, whether it is something tangible such as getting a new home or car, or something that’s a circumstance such as attracting a soulmate or money freedom, we also need to be in full compliance with the universal laws or we’ll be sabotaging our results.

In his book called Working with the Law, Raymond Holliwell explains about obedience to the laws of the mind:

The word “obey” means to submit to rule or to comply with orders or instructions. Obedience, then, is the governor of all movement whether it be mechanical, literal, or spiritual. A  giant machine without its governor would tear itself apart, would be utterly destroyed because it  failed to  obey its own laws  of momentum or gravity.

An intellectual giant who fails to comply with the laws of learning will become as an idiot. A student failing to comply with or to obey the instructions of spirit, the Law of God, will reverse that good and create evil. We are dependent entirely on obedience for our success or failure in this life.

Our societies, cities, states and nation are supported by it. Our properties and lives are dependent upon it. Because of our respect for obedience, we, as a whole, support it. But woe  unto the man who tries to break through to pillage, to plunder for selfish gain.

As we look into the home we see the mother training her child into habits of discipline. Tomorrow we see a  happy mother because her child has grown into youth and manhood and has earned success. A success because, back in the beginning of his life, the seed of obedience was placed there which brought forth respect, obedience, and unselfish thought.

On the other hand, we may see where others fail because they have been allowed to grow up being disobedient, disrespectful, and selfish.

How to Relax Your Way into Manifesting Your Desires

Why do we struggle so much to get what we want? Is it really true that life is hard, and we just have to endure all the pain before we manage to enjoy even a portion of “gain”?

Actually, the truth is, humans have had a total misunderstanding of how this world, and our universe, actually works, and because of that, we’ve been stuck with a lot of rules and regulations about goal-achieving that are simply upside down and backwards.
There’s a much easier way to manifest what we want: by desiring it, and allowing it to come to us. It doesn’t mean you sit in a comfy armchair and magical manifestations shower upon you from the heavens, however it does mean that you can learn to take inspired action, the kind of intuitive choices and decisions that lead to a much smoother and more delightful path of realizing your goals.

As Abraham-Hicks explains, “No matter what it is, if you really want it, and if you get out of the way of it, it will happen. It must be. It is Law. It can be no other way. It’s the way this Universe is established. If you want it and you relax, it will happen.”

Impress Your Mind with the Prosperity You Desire

Prosperity means different things to different people, and its meaning can change for us individually as we go through the stages of life, and perhaps change our focus on a bank balance toward wanting to experience fulfillment in all areas, not just financial success.

However, I won’t argue that money isn’t important. It’s the exchange medium we use to get things we want. Someone might argue that money won’t buy good health—but money will buy you nutritious food, supplements, a safe and clean home, and so on.

I want to share a process to help you get into the spirit of manifesting, no matter what outcome you desire.  Perhaps prosperity means having the means to enjoy a certain lifestyle, to take a vacation without having to scrimp or sacrifice to pay for it. Prosperity is an outlook on life, an attitude, rather than a specific dollar amount.

Sometimes, though, we do want to manifest a certain amount of money for a particular project or the down payment on a car or home.  Below is an excerpt  from Your Invisible Power by Genevieve Behrend. In it, she explains how she opened up her mental faculties to receive the money she needed to travel from USA to England and be able to live there long enough to study with famed philosopher and teacher Thomas Troward.  This book was published in 1921. She studied with Troward 1912-14 (and was his only student).  Notice that she had estimated she would need $20,000 to cover her expenses. There are various estimates of what the amount would be in today’s dollars. Some say that $20 in 1912 would be equivalent to $500-700 today. So you see she was really planning to manifest a lot of money, about $500,000-$700,000.

But she understood the process of using her mind to first imagine the specific amount, and then to create a physical process (counting the money each night in her mind) to further impress her subconscious with the new truth that she had this money in her possession.

We can use this same technique for absolutely everything we desire.  Picture it, make it real to yourself, so real you feel it is happening now, and what will happen is that the new vibration you are in will open your mind to receive ideas for getting what you want, ideas that will not occur to you when you are in the panicked mode of “Help, I need money now!!!!”

Here is the excerpt from “Your Invisible Power”:

So every night, before going to sleep, I made a mental picture of the desired $20,000 which seemed necessary to go and study with Troward.

Twenty imaginary $1,000 bills were counted over each night in my bedroom, and then, with the idea of more emphatically impressing my mind with the fact that this twenty thousand dollars was for the purpose of going to England and studying with Troward, I wrote out my picture, saw myself buying my steamer ticket, walking up and down the ship’s deck from New York to London, and finally, saw myself accepted as Troward’s pupil. This process was repeated every morning and every evening, always impressing more and more fully upon my mind Troward‘s memorized statement: “My mind is a center of Divine operations.” I endeavored to keep this statement in the back part of my consciousness all the time, with no thought in mind of how the money might be obtained. Probably the reason why there was no thought of the avenues through which the money might reach me was because I could not possibly imagine where the $20,000 would come from. So I simply held my thought steady and let the power of attraction find its own ways and means.

One day while walking on the street, taking deep breathing exercises, the thought came:

“My mind is surely a center of Divine operation. If God fills all space, then God must be in my mind also; if I want this money to study with Troward that I may know the truth of Life, then both the money and the truth must be mine, though I am unable to feel or see the physical manifestations of either. Still,” I declared, “it must be mine.”

While these reflections were going on in my mind, there seemed to come up from within me the thought: “I Am all the substance there is. Then, from another channel in my brain the answer seemed to come, “Of course, that’s it; everything must have its beginning in mind. The idea must contain within itself the only one and primary substance there is, and this means money as well as everything else.” My mind accepted this idea, and immediately all the tension of mind and body was relaxed.

There was a feeling of absolute certainty of being in touch with all the power Life has to give. All thought of money, teacher, or even my own personality, vanished in the great wave of joy which swept over my entire being. I walked on and on, with this feeling of joy steadily increasing and expanding until everything about me seemed aglow with resplendent light. Every person I passed appeared illuminated as I was. All consciousness of personality had disappeared, and in its place there came that great and almost overwhelming sense of joy and contentment.

That night when I made my picture of the twenty thousand dollars it was with an entirely changed aspect. On previous occasions, when making my mental picture, I had felt that I was waking up something within myself. This time there was no sensation of effort. I simply counted over the twenty thousand dollars. Then, in a most unexpected manner, from a source of which I had no consciousness at the time, there seemed to open a possible avenue through which the money might reach me.

At first it took great effort not to be excited. It all seemed so wonderful, so glorious, to be in touch with supply. But had not Troward cautioned his readers to keep all excitement out of their minds in the first flush of realization of union with Infinite supply, and to treat this fact as a perfectly natural result which had been reached through our demand? This was even more difficult for me than it was to hold the thought that “all the substance there is, I Am; I (idea) Am the beginning of all form, visible or invisible.”

Does Wanting It Mean You Can Have It?

Share Button

When we open up to understanding the laws of creation, and that we have the power to experience a more joyful life by deliberately focusing on what we want, many of us get stuck. We wonder, “But can I really have it all?” … “Aren’t I being greedy to ask for so much when so many people have so little?” … “Shouldn’t I narrow my list down to one or two of the most important things I’d really like to have?”

Harriet Emilie Cady (1848-1941) was an American homeopathic physician and the author of several books on spiritual development. Her book Lessons in Truth, A Course of Twelve Lessons in Practical Christianity (1896) has sold over 1.6 million copies. With her focus on learning to access “truth” and what it means to each of us, she provides lessons that are applicable to our lives today, and in fact are considered part of the core teachings of the Unity Church.

“A desire in the heart for anything,” Cady said, “is God’s sure promise sent beforehand to indicate that it is yours already in the limitless realm of supply.”

We see so many quotes shared in social media that it’s easy to gulp down the words at a quick glance, nod in agreement that it’s positive and useful, and then pass it on to friends. And yet, how often do we pause and really take in the meaning the person being quoted wanted to convey to us?

When we look at a quotation such as the one above from H. Emilie Cady, it’s so easy to dismiss it as being too similar to other things we’ve read or seen online or heard from others. Let’s look at it more closely and see the power to create change in your life:

“A desire in the heart for anything” – It all starts with desire. You might wake up with it, or it comes seemingly out of the blue one day, but you realize that your heart is calling you. You start smiling about this desire, and you know without further examination that you would love to experience it.

“is God’s sure promise sent beforehand” – Whatever we desire is an idea from Spirit for more expansion, and the seed of the desire, like any seed in nature, holds within it the energy to sprout, grow and blossom. The seed of a flower doesn’t get the energy after it’s planted—it comes with the energy inside it, a promise of full self-expression.

“to indicate that it is yours already” – Hey, it’s yours, sweetie! If you thought of it, if your heart is running over with joyful music at the very idea of creating or enjoying this, then it is yours. You don’t have to run around and paste your name on it or file a claim for it at some universal patent office on cloud nine. It’s yours. Already.

“in the limitless realm of supply.” – You can’t ask for “too much” – that’s a human concept that is upside down and backwards and comes from the Old Worldview of thinking that life is all about looking at our conditions and then deciding what we can achieve or have or be or do. Limitless. That means you can take as much as you want and there will always be more, for you and for everyone else. Supply—it’s an amazing storehouse or warehouse crammed and jammed with every idea in the universe and plenty of room for new ideas and their fulfillment.

Now that you know you can have whatever you want – and that means truly want, not just a passing fancy or idle wish, but a genuine desire, such as for prosperity, love, more compassion and peace in your life and that of others – what are you going to do next?

How to Get What You Want Every Time

In the classic manifestation book How to Get What You Want, written by Orison Swett Marden in 1923 and referenced countless times in New Thought teachings, Marden tells us,

“Men and women are human magnets. Just as a steel magnet drawn through a pile of rubbish will pull out only the things which have an affinity for it, so we are constantly drawing to us, establishing relations with, the things and the people that respond to our thoughts and ideals. Our environment, our associates, our general condition are the result of our mental attraction. These things have come to us on the physical plane because we have concentrated upon them, have related ourselves to them mentally; they are our affinities, and will remain with us as long as the affinity for them continues to exist in our minds.

“Your thoughts, your viewpoints, your conception of what your status and position in life will be, your ideal of your future, will draw you exactly to that plane like a lodestone. Focus your mind, your predictions, your expectations on poverty, failure and wretchedness; banish ambition, hope, expectation of good things, and give full sway in your mentality to fear, worry, doubt, anticipation of evil, and the ego magnet will draw you unerringly to squalid surroundings, to an inferior position, to association with persons of a lower order of mind on a meaner social plane.

“The great trouble with all of us who are struggling with unhappy or unfortunate conditions is that we have separated ourselves in some way from the great magnetic center of creation. We are not thinking right, and so we are not attracting the right things. “Think the things you want.” The profoundest philosophy is locked up in these few words. Think of them clearly, persistently, concentrating upon them with all the force and might of your mind, and struggle toward them with all your energy. This is the way to make yourself a magnet for the things you want. But the moment you begin to doubt, to worry, to fear, you demagnetize yourself, and the things you desire flee from you. You drive them away by your mental attitude. They cannot come near you while you are deliberately separating yourself from them. You are going in one direction, and the things you want are going in the opposite direction.”

What can we do about this disconnect that is so prevalent in our experience? The obvious solution is to start going in the same direction mentally as your desires are going. We don’t run after what we want–we don’t chase our dreams–all of that turns out to be wrong advice from people who simply did not understand the laws of the human mind.  Instead, we focus on a clear image of what we desire, and we magnetize it to our lives by thinking about it and feeling that it is already true. The difference is immense, and when you start practicing this process — think it–feel it–hold it steady while you magnetize–make it welcome — you will begin calling to you all that you want to enjoy in life including peace of mind, love and prosperity.

You probably are familiar with the Disney song “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes” from the classic animated film Cinderella. The lyrics remind us to have faith in our dreams so that they will come true.

But is it enough to just wish for something? After all, we can look in our own experience and see countless times we wished for something that never happened, or that turned out all wrong, a far cry from what we had in mind.
Here’s what Napoleon Hill tells us in Think and Grow Rich in the chapter on “desires”:
“There is a difference between WISHING for a thing and being READY to receive it. No one is ready for a thing until he believes he can acquire it. The state of mind must be BELIEF, not mere hope or wish. Open-mindedness is essential for belief. Closed minds do not inspire faith, courage, and belief.
“Remember, no more effort is required to aim high in life, to demand abundance and prosperity, than is required to accept misery and poverty.”
In my studies of the laws of the mind, I’ve gotten really curious about the difference between hoping and intending that something will happen a certain way, and preparing for its arrival.
First, I have to be open to it being what the Universe (God, Spirit, Infinite Intelligence) sends in response to my asking, instead of narrowly focusing on a particular outcome. I love reading anecdotes about people who learned that lesson the hard way, not because I’m laughing at them but because it makes the concept a bit easier to understand and apply.
For instance, someone who kept chanting affirmations that he was attracting $10,000, and after he got it, found out from a friend that he could’ve asked for more because the company paying him was prepared to go up to double that amount for his fee.
Second, a key ingredient is truly believing that I will get what I desire. Often, we’ll repeat our positive affirmations about a big dream and get really frustrated when nothing much happens. Look deeper and see if you are canceling out your affirmation with the inner belief that it’s not going to happen. That doubt is the vibration in charge of your results.
And third, having an open mind means allowing miracles to happen. Keep dreaming, keep wishing, but do it the right way, with full faith you can have all you want as long as you believe you can.
How to Stop Stressing over Money

How to Stop Stressing over Money

I took an informal survey to find out what most people are stressed about these days–and it’s no surprise to me that the #1 answer is MONEY! Small business owners worry how they are going to meet payroll and vendor bills, parents worry how they will afford their kids’ education or their own retirement, entrepreneurs worry how they will replace their previous income while building their new business, and everybody seems to be worrying how to enjoy life when they can’t seem to reach their money goals.

Ready to step into a life of abundance? My Home Training Program “Be Healthy Be Rich” will show you how EASY it is to enjoy more of what you desire. CLICK HERE

Chronic stress affects everything in your life: your relationships, your job satisfaction, your health, and your sense of personal fulfillment. It’s important to find ways to get your stress level down to a manageable level, but usually when someone is filled with anxiety, and the bills are piling up, it can be hard to consider that relief could be just a thought away. However, that is true, and the reason is that we become what we think about. The more you think about your money worries, the more worries will flood to you, because they are in harmony with whatever your focus of attention is, and you attract more of the same.

There’s a way out, and it’s a simple three-step process that you can practice right now, use as often as you’d like, and share with family and friends. Here’s what you do:

  1. Breathe in slowly through your nose to the silent count of four, then hold your breath to the count of four, and slowly exhale through your mouth to the count of four. Your stress hormones will settle down instead of firing up even more panic. Repeat a few times until you feel a bit calmer. Understand what you are seeking is a sense of relief so that your mind is open to the next step in this process.
  1. Bring to mind the outcome that you desire. Perhaps there is a specific amount of money that would bring great relief to you at this time. Imagine how it would feel if that money was in your bank account, and that even after paying the bills, there would be a delightful surplus of funds available to you. How would it feel? Did your shoulders just drop a little? Maybe you didn’t even realize how tensed you’ve been, and how tightly you’ve been holding your body. Shake your arms, wriggle around, signal your body and mind that change is coming. Keep that feeling of relief in your thoughts and bask in how wonderful it feels now the money stress has vanished.
  1. While holding that feeling of relief, and visualizing yourself smiling at your employees or coworkers and enjoying a few high-fives because you have turned a financial corner, consider an action step you can take in the next five minutes that will lead you toward your success. It might be making a phone call you’ve been putting off because it felt uncomfortable and you worried how the other person would react to you. Go do it now. Successful people make it a habit to do the things they know must be done, even when they don’t really want to do those things. They put the success of the business or project first, and step into the required action. That means, whatever is on your list that you’ve been avoiding even though you know it’s important, contains the seeds to the success and money freedom you desire. But nothing will happen if the bright ideas just stay on paper and never see the light of day.

When you are stuck in a worry and stress mode, that zone of fear will keep you paralyzed. Use the three steps above, take an action, keep visualizing your success and feel it as being real. Think of what you want, not what you don’t want. That’s the key to changing your results.

Dump Your Money Stress

Dump Your Money Stress

There are two things I’ll say up front about “money stress”– 1) if you’ve got it, you’re inadvertently pushing money away from you, and 2) if you’re a parent, you’re teaching your children (by example) that struggles around finances are a big headache they can look forward to experiencing when they grow up.

So let’s bust the most commonly held ideas about money wide open, and by doing so, relieve that stranglehold that the topic has on your emotions.

Monster Myths about You and Money

  • You have to either be lucky or work really hard to have enough money
  • It’s the economy
  • There’s always more month left than money
  • Some people are good at making money–they were born that way
  • Everybody worries about money–it’s just the nature of the subject
  • I have to warn my kids to be thrifty and careful with their funds
  • I don’t have money because I keep getting passed over for a promotion
  • It’s impossible to have more money than bills, because something always comes up unexpectedly
  • And also…. [add your own–probably ideas come to mind that you’ve heard all your life in your family]

The Truth about Money

Money is energy.  That’s all it is. It’s a way we exchange energy so we have something to purchase other things in life to enhance our experience here.

We get ourselves so worked up about money that we stress over, worry about running out, fret over ways to make more of it…and all of that mental activity perpetuates the problem of lack.  By the unfailing law of attraction, when our focus is on bills, debt, worrying about not having enough, complaining we don’t have all we want…we attract more of the same!  More bills, more money problems, more financial woe.

So what’s the solution?  Learn how to notice what you are paying attention to throughout the day. If you are worrying about money (and by extension, teaching your children that money-worry-habit, too) just pause for a moment. Breathe in a few calming breaths. Ask yourself what you would love to experience about money instead of that ongoing worry and stress.  Delight? Relief? Enough-ness? Sufficiency to meet and exceed your needs and desires?

Take a few moments now to imagine how it would feel to never worry again about money.

It would feel amazing, wouldn’t it? There is an unlimited supply of money, no matter what you might hear in the news or even learned in an economics class. This is a universe of expansion and abundance. When we get our thoughts in alignment with abundance, then we start sending out an “energy signal” that is in harmony with ample money.  And when we do that, the law of attraction will line you up with the money you desire and it will flow into your life.

The “trick” that most people miss (and get discouraged and frustrated about) is that when you are feeling upset about money, it cannot come to you.  It’s as if you are on the third floor at the mall, and what you want is on the fifth floor, but you just keep complaining that you wish it would come to you.  With that example, we know, of course, that we have to go up to the fifth floor where that merchandise or service is located. Our daily experiences have taught us that sort of behavior again and again. But when it comes to shifting our mental behavior, we tend to fall in line with the “paradigm” (habitual thoughts and beliefs) that we learned from our own parents, teachers and friends. We complain, we fret, we point to a stack of bills and tell a story that justifies the validity of our worry.  But the universal Mind can’t “read” the positive affirmations about money that you recite morning and evening–your signal is vibratory, and it’s what you are truly thinking and believing about your relationship with money.

Start keeping T.A.B.S. on your money thinking habits — that’s an acronym from my book YOU WERE BORN TO TRIUMPH: Create a Five-Star Life in Your Quantum Kitchen. It stands for Tell A Better Story.  Instead of telling your stale old story about bills, and prices going up, inflation, on and on the same old soap opera revolving around you and money, why not hit the “Refresh” button and tell a story of enjoying financial freedom!
