“Resolve to keep happy and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties.”–Helen Keller
What does that quote even mean? It sounds nice, to be able to create something invincible to protect us from strife and problems. But how can you “resolve” to be happy and joyous when so many bad things are going on in your life?
If you’re looking at a stack of bills, how are you supposed to be happy about THAT? Or if you’re faced with replacing a broken refrigerator, why is that a joyful activity? What if someone in your life has just died – how can that make you feel happy?
The thing is, all those examples come at Life from a backwards angle. There will always be bills and repairs and deaths (as well as births) in your lifetime. But the key thing that puts you in the driver seat of your own life, and allows you to feel centered in your spiritual being instead of feeling like a victim of circumstances, is to CHOOSE to be a happy and joyous person. That means you understand that life has its ups and downs and you won’t necessarily like everything going on. But you don’t have to be rattled by it. You don’t have to plummet into the depths of despair. When you resolve to find joy in your life every day, then you will more easily move into the next right action and direct your thoughts in an upward spiral where you are moving higher and more positive in your thinking.
