Book excerpt…

GET HAPPY TODAY

Your Path to Lifelong Happiness

from Chapter  6, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy – trade in your demons and excuses” –
Worry is the opposite of hope.

Both emotions – worry and hope – are projected by your mind from the present into the future. With a hopeful outlook you remain positive and happy, knowing that no matter what is next around the corner in your life, you’ll be able to handle it. You maintain optimism that your life will be a good one.

When you worry, on the other hand, you envision the future in great detail, and it’s all bad. Your fears take over and paint a dark picture of what is to come. You fret in your mind as if all your imaginings about “tomorrow” are actually real.

And yet they are not real. They are merely anxious thoughts in your head.

That’s how powerful the human mind is. We are capable of dreaming up events that have not happened and getting so wrapped up in the emotions that our bodies believe it is all real.

Evelyn Brooks

PS Did I mention that I’m so excited about my new book I can’t wait for you to read it!  It’s been over 15 years in the making and I’m really proud of it because I marshaled all that I’ve learned and all that I’ve put into practice, and I’ve concentrated it into a book that is about 200 pages long. You won’t be faced with hundreds of pages of tiny type and long paragraphs. I make it EASY for you!  :-)   It’s been a labor of love, and I am pleased to offer it to you in this special book launch on 9/11.

Taking pre-emptive action

Strike while the iron is hot!

You’ve probably heard some of these proverbs and sayings before:

  • Strike while the iron’s hot
  • Haste makes waste
  • A stitch in time saves nine

Bottom line is that you’re being told to take action when the timing is right.  Procrastination and hesitation are habits that get in the way of taking action when it’s needed. What else happens?

Do you have stress insurance?

What kind of policy would you buy, if there was such a thing as insurance against stress?

I can see there’d need to be different types of policies, and maybe you wouldn’t want or need all of them. Or you might add on a rider now and then for specific short-term items, such as the stress of planning a wedding in the family.

Here are some of the types of stress people have, and maybe you are familiar with some or all of them:

Educate yourself about stress

This morning’s Los Angeles Times features a lot of articles about education, from worry about test scores to promising new agendas for improving our educational system.  It’s back-to-school for area students, and so the focus – at least for now – is on our system of education.

It’s great to see the attention paid to it. The problems are bigger than a few articles can “fix” but unless we bring the spotlight to the situation, it can be easily forgotten, overlooked or accepted as the way things are.

Too many times we do that to ourselves in our own lives. We simply shrug and accept the stress load we’re carrying, because it’s become a familiar problem!  On top of that, it feels like it’s
