Handle with care

By Evelyn Brooks

Wouldn’t this “Fragile: Handle with Care” sign make a great t-shirt to wear on days when you’re feeling super-stressed?

It’d be so much easier if we could announce to the world very plainly: “Hey, I’m feeling fragile today, so be careful what you say to me.  I just might break!”

But instead, we usually insist (with clenched teeth) that nothing’s wrong and we feel just fine!

A big stress trigger for most people is moving — even if you’re excited or happy about moving to your new place, there’s so much work involved and a lot of details to take care of.

Even if you aren’t physically moving to a new location this weekend, you are moving through your life, carrying all that baggage on your back that you haul from day to day — it’s the garbage from the past that you haven’t let go of, your worries about the future, and the things on your “To Do” list.  That’s a lot to carry around.

Lighten up! Dump the past, stop worrying about the future, and whittle your “To Do” list to the 3 or 4 most important things you must take care of today. I tell you how to do this in my book “Forget Your Troubles: Enjoy Your Life Today.” Have you read your copy yet? Get it here — instant access.

Evelyn

  1. Thanks Evelyn. Great reminder. I know I feel that fragility some days.

  2. Your thoughts, Evelyn, remind me of a book I read a long time ago called, “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff”.

Yes, I believe each and every one of us is carrying around some type of baggage. As we pass by some dumpster along the road, we should just toss it in! Sometimes that’s a little easier said than done.

If you really think about it, there’s no use in dwelling on the past. I call all the yesterdays, “Canceled checks”. And worrying about the future? My kids don’t like it when I say this but, “I could get run over by a bus tomorrow”. But you get my drift, I’m sure. :-)
